Few people know how to brush their teeth in the correct manner, though the majority knows that brushing their teeth is important. In order to avoid plaque, gum disease and needless trips to the dentist it important that you learn the correct way in which to brush your teeth. You should dampen your toothbrush with water prior to adding toothpaste to it. Once the toothbrush is moist, you should turn off the faucet.

One should be conservative, regardless of the fact that brushing of teeth is important. Apply toothpaste to your toothbrush but only enough to actually do a good job of brushing. There is no need to cover your entire toothbrush with toothpaste, an amount the size of a pea is sufficient. An additional amount is wasteful. The brushing procedure remains the same regardless of the fact that one uses a manual toothbrush or an electronic one.

You need to bear in mind that it is important to brush each tooth individually. The front teeth should be brushed first and then the back ones. Brush each tooth methodically including their backs and edges. Brush your gums gently too, after you have finished brushing your teeth. This ensures that diseases like Gingivitis and Periodontitis can be warded off and gums too will remain stimulated.

Finally, brush your tongue. This removes bacteria present within the mouth and also provides you with fresher breath. Once the teeth, gums, and tongue have been brushed, rinse your mouth with clear, cold water. Also rinse your toothbrush thoroughly then cover it and put it away. Covering the toothbrush prevents buildup of airborne bacteria as well as microscopic particles from the toilet. Re-cap the toothpaste and put it away.

You should always floss after brushing teeth, or prior to brushing whichever you prefer, to ensure that you have removed all food particles from between your teeth. You can also use a mouthwash that contains fluoride or one that has an anti-plaque ingredient to ensure your teeth and gums remain healthy. To ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy and also to get your teeth cleaned professionally, you should visit the dentist twice a year.
