PostHeaderIcon What Is Involved In A Rhinoplasty Procedure?

Rhinoplasty is a medical procedure that involves reshaping the nose for either reconstructive or cosmetic purposes. It is more commonly referred to as a ‘nose job’. The word rhinoplasty is derived from the Latin word ‘rhino’ (nose) and the Greek word ‘plasty’ (forming or molding).

This procedure can be done to make the nose smaller or to change the tip for a more attractive look. Even the angle between the upper lip and the nose can be changed. If someone has incurred an injury or an abnormality of the nasal cavity due to an accident or injury, it can be corrected through reconstruction of the nose. This will enable the patient to breathe correctly through the nostrils.

There are two ways of performing rhinoplasty; either the ‘open’ or ‘closed’ techniques. Whichever method your surgeon chooses, incisions will have to be made in both nostrils. If you have the open surgery an additional incision will be made in the fleshy portion between your nostrils. The surgeon can then adjust your bone and cartilage.
